Shutting things down here for a week or so to take in some much needed slope time. Happy New Year!
I’ve spent the better part of this day trying to think of a creative way of expressing my appreciation to all of you who worked with me this year. You, who trusted me with your families, your weddings, your newborn babies. You who sat in my studio and cried when you saw your photos, who made me cry when you told me how happy I had made you. I don’t know how to fully convey how grateful I am that your support allows me to keep landing on my feet, to keep seeing that distant light. I’ve leaned on some pretty strong shoulders this year, and I will never forget that.
I guess the simplest thing to do is just to say thank you. For everything. If you’re in this video, you are a part of any happiness I felt this year. If you’re not in the video, but would like to be in next year’s, give me a call 🙂
I hope you’ll watch this all the way through, speakers on. There are some really special people here. Happy holidays, and thank you.
Hazel just might be the happiest baby on the planet. True story.
She was the perfect way to wrap up my babies, kids, and families sessions for 2011. I actually got a little watery as I drove away from her house in the city when the shoot was over, until a rogue urban raccoon ran out into the street and scared the crap out of me. Another true story.
Mom Adrienne was so laid back and easy — it’s no wonder Hazel is such a treat.
A quick trip outside to show off her fabulous hat.
Her cheeks actually rest on her shoulders if you position her just right. Girlfriend’s gonna save oodles on handbags, there’s plenty of room in there for keys and cash.
Delicious little frock.
I’m so grateful to Hazel for her sunny smiles — and to all of you for coming to check her out. Leave Hazel a comment, I promise I’ll pass it along 🙂
Kevin, Monica, and their three kids met me at the beach last week to goof around and maybe take some pictures. Time to hit the reset button on coolest people EVER.
I’d already taken Hope’s school photo, so she started things out and showed everyone the ropes.
Kevin had warned me that Olivia might be a little reticent to shoot with me. Wrong! She lit up the minute we got there.
Shane just radiates light and happiness.
Monica is a legit smokeshow — Kevin actually got this shot of her:
Kevin is an awesome photographer, keep your eyes peeled for his stuff next year!
I think this is my favorite from the day.
Or maybe these:
A big thank you to my newest friends for a great morning!
Look, I did the work for you. Cool things I found in the wee hours.
1. So bad it has to be real. Texts from Bennett.
2. Brad Pitt as Kramer, and other equally creepy ideas.
3. Absolutely gorgeous food porn.
4. Did anyone else think River Phoenix would be this breathtaking? How lucky that we may get to see this, his final film.
5. If you follow my music posts, you know I’m one of Lissie’s biggest fans. She’s gone mainstream, but she’s still hot.
6. I’m looking forward to seeing this film by a friend from high school who is living an amazing life.
7. One of my favorite photography websites; photos that make you think and yearn. Go shoot something.
8. Stuff you need. Like vintage marbles. And the first toothpaste ever invented.
This (J) must be the saddest song ever written.
More proof that the coolest people come from Canada.
Fonzie, however, is an all-American canine.
Deanna and Sarah were so good for me.
I love this shot of Sarah in front of the only tree that hadn’t gone brown.
Sue and Jeff were total stars.
A big thank you to the whole family for bringing the awesomeness!
Each year I try to write a post on the day before Thanksgiving detailing all that I have been thankful for in the past year. This year, however, I am crazy busy (thankful!) and somewhat behind, so I’m going to have to wait until next week to post my thoughts. Happily, however, I can apply my thankful-ness to Will and Reid, who make me smile just by existing. I’ve known them forever and while I don’t see them as often as I would like, when we got together a few weeks ago, we picked up right where we left off, which was with the both of them ruling the universe.
We got a bit of a late start, so I dragged them deep into the woods near their house where I spotted one tiny little patch of lingering light.
Even after we lost that sun, they still lit up for me.
Parents Patty and Lance moved into a new house at the beginning of this year; this great little stone building on the property was a perfect setting for some relaxed portraits. Reid was a perfect subject.
And Will (a.k.a. mini-Lance) is such a stunner.
Willing to have leaves dumped on them.
We took a whole lot of jumping photos — this one just cracks me up.
This shows that there’s still a touch of little boy in Reid.
Will’s definitely long beyond the little boy stage.
Patty, Lance, Will, and Reid — thankful doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Cindy and Jeremi had Chloé and Howie, and all was good. Somewhat slobbery, but good. Then they had Aviana, and good turned to amazing. They all live happily together in a light-filled house with views of the water. As if they needed anything else beautiful to look at.
Chloé was initially shy in front of the camera, but it wasn’t long before she found her groove.
Aviana had no problems posing for me.
Howie wanted in on the action.
Quick outfit change, and a chance to admire her fabulous self.
I love this one.
Cindy and Jeremi’s house is filled with beautiful art. Jeremi took the photograph above Aviana.
Some carpet time, playing with the dogs. Aviana is completely comfortable with the slobbering. Kindred spirits.
Trés chic, no?
At this point our models started to fade, but we popped outdoors for a quick family shot before saying goodbye. Truly a favorite from the year — a big thank you to Cindy, Jeremi, Aviana, Chloé, and Howie for welcoming me into their home!
Kathy had the winning bid for a shoot benefiting the Cohasset Education Foundation, which makes me especially happy, as I’ve been wanting to work with her kids for a long time. Meet James, Kasey, and Cate!
James lit up when I started talking about XBox.
Kasey just lit up, period.
And Cate? Those teeth just kill me. LOVE her.
On my favorite fence.
Love these shots of Kasey — she giggles at everything.
A fun sibling moment.
Thank you Kathy, for bringing your gang and for a super-fun afternoon!
